§ 2-31. Composition; election; term of office; amended election districts.

  • (a)

    The city shall be divided into four city council election districts; and the membership of the city council shall be seven members, with one councilmember being elected from each district commencing in 1993 and thereafter, for a term of four years and the mayor and two councilmembers being elected at large commencing in 1995 and thereafter, each for a term of four years.

    (b)

    At the election of councilmembers from districts, each elector shall vote for one councilmember from the elector's respective district at the primary election, if any, and the general election. With the election of councilmembers at large, two councilmembers shall be voted for by each elector at the primary election, if any, and the general election. At the election of the mayor, one candidate for mayor shall be voted for by each elector at the primary election, if any, and the general election.

    (c)

    The mayor and councilmembers shall take office at the latter of either the first regular or special meeting after the receipt of the official election results or at the first regular or special meeting in the month following their election. Further, the agenda for such meeting shall include the inauguration of the newly elected officers.

    (d)

    The city council election districts shall be designated as the North, South, East and West City Council Election Districts, respectively. Commencing with the 2005 primary election, if any, and the 2005 general election, the four city council amended election districts shall be comprised of the geographic locations legally described as follows.
