§ 38-56. Created; composition.

  • There is hereby created a unit of auxiliary police officers appointed by the mayor. Competent and qualified members of the unit shall be selected and assigned certain supervisory authority and duties in positions and numbers deemed necessary by the chief of police to provide supervision of subordinate auxiliary officer personnel. Auxiliary officers shall not supplement regular members of the police department but shall only be assigned to aid or direct traffic within the city, to aid in control of natural or manmade disasters and any other duties as directed by the chief of police which are impractical for sworn members of the police department to perform.
