§ 74-57. Deposits of materials which may obstruct sewer prohibited.

Latest version.
  • It shall be unlawful to throw, deposit, transmit or place in any manner, in any receptacle, pipe or appurtenance connected within or to the public sanitary sewer system any materials, including, but not limited to, fats, oils, grease, food refuse or any other material whatsoever which may partially or wholly obstruct any portion of the sanitary sewer system. Grease removal systems shall be maintained as follows:

    (1)

All grease removal systems shall be maintained by qualified personnel in order to ensure proper operation. Interceptor-style grease removal systems shall be cleaned no less than once every 90 days. Trap-style grease removal systems shall be cleaned no less than every 30 days. If the foregoing cleaning schedules do not properly remediate a sewer grease blockage, the city may require more frequent cleanings.

    (2)

Every entity having a grease removal system shall maintain a log record indicating each cleaning and maintenance activity. Log records shall be kept for at least 12 months and made available to the city when requested.

    (3)

Required cleaning frequencies may be extended or reduced at the discretion of the city engineer based on documented grease volumes generated. Any such reduction shall only be valid if approved in writing.

    (4)

No facility may use an additive of any type for the grease removal system without the written approval of the city.
